Hi and welcome to the Somatic Coaching Academy Podcast. Ani, how are you?
Ani
I’m good, thanks. How are you?
Brian
I’m doing well, doing well. Excited for today’s topic?
Ani
Yeah.
Brian
Yeah, because you came up with it.
Ani
Oh, great.
Brian
You’re like, hey, can we talk about this?
Ani
Uh-huh. What was it? Um, do you remember?
Brian
We’re talking about synchronicities. We’ve been, uh, talking over the past, um, year obviously about manifestation and those sorts of things because of the, because of the book. And, um, we’re, we kind of track synchronicities. And a few weeks, if not months ago, you said, Brian, does it seem to you like synchronicities seem like they’re speeding up? Like things are happening faster? And I thought maybe, um, we could kind of break that down. But you said, hey, I’d like to talk about this idea that synchronicities are speeding up.
Ani
Yeah, and I want to thank those of you who are reading Manifestation for Dummies and sending us notes. We really appreciate hearing your thoughts about the book. And for those of you who have left Amazon reviews, thank you so much. If you haven’t left an Amazon review yet, go ahead over to Amazon and let everybody know what you think about the book, because the thing is, people really want to hear your voice. They really want to know what you think about the book to see if they should buy the book. So you can go over to Amazon and leave a review.
Brian
Yeah, and they want to hear your successes. They want to hear about what it is that you are manifesting through the course of acting out the material that’s in the book, because it’s our hope that people, um, consciously create their lives in a way that enriches themselves, enriches their communities, enriches the— could we even say like the earth and the human race? We would hope. But to take these things into practice to create, uh, better and more meaningful and enriched lives for, for everyone. So people want to hear your stories that it’s actually working.
Ani
One of the things that— one of the reasons that I wanted to talk about this is because a lot of times when people think of manifestation, they think about a new car landing in your yard out of nowhere, or big fat check in the mailbox, or a new house, or a new job, or a new husband. Sorry, Brian. Um, these big huge things. And one of the things that we talk about is that manifestation is happening all the time. You are manifesting all the time. And there’s this way of life where you can be in the flow of manifestation. And when that happens, the way I experience it, the way I am noticing people experience it, isn’t that big yachts fall out of the sky every day. It’s that these synchronicities happen and they’re oftentimes small. They’re oftentimes everyday kind of things. First of all, what a magical life to be in the spontaneous flow of these synchronicities on a daily, weekly, all the time basis. But also to really notice how they come in these smaller packages, these everyday packages, because that’s the lives that we’re living. We’re, you know, we’re living these everyday kind of lives and synchronicities show up.
Ani
All the time in everyday ways. But before we get too far down this rabbit hole, Brian, do you have a definition for us?
Brian
Yeah, let’s define synchronicities for people who are like, maybe this is the first, uh, podcast you’re catching and you’re like, what are they talking about? I’m really interested in synchronicities, but I got to get on the map. So, uh, in the book, you know, in the Manifestation for Dummies book, we talk a lot about synchronicities in the book and talk about how, uh, that’s how the universe operates through synchronicity all of the time. Like, every physiological reaction in your body is technically a synchronicity. Like, things are happening. So things are happening in the top of your body, things are happening like way down in the bottom of your body, on the inside of your body, on the outside of your body, um, and they’re all orchestrated, right? And things are happening between your body and your people who live around you body, right? And there— so that’s all orchestrated. So there’s all these synchronicities that are already happening all of the time. But let’s just look at a definition of synchronicities. And, and we did do this a few, um, weeks ago or months ago on the podcast as well, where we dug into the definition of synchronicities too.
Brian
But let’s just put ourselves on the map. So from Merriam-Webster, it says a synchronicity is a coincidental occurrence of events that appear meaningfully related yet lack any direct causal connection. And, uh, synchronicity was originally coined by Carl Jung, actually, the, you know, a famous psycho— psychologist and psychotherapist, uh, with work that he was doing with his patients and noticing that when his patients focused on certain things, that they actually actualize those things in their lives through synchronicities that didn’t have a causal event. So there’s two parts of a synchronicity. First part is they’re acausal. It means that two things happened, but we don’t, we don’t directly perceive a cause and effect relationship between the two. That doesn’t mean that there’s not a cause and effect relationship. It just means our human faculties are not able to perceive a connected relationship between those two things. It’s kind of the same way as like tuning forks. If you’ve ever looked at how tuning forks work, you know, if you have two tuning forks and you’re holding one in each hand and they’re kind of tuned to the same frequency, if you get one tuning fork vibrating, like you tap one of the forks and it starts vibrating, you can bring those two tuning forks close to one another without touching, and the second tuning fork will start vibrating at the same frequency as the first tuning fork.
Brian
And we might think that that’s like magic— oh my God, what just happened?— because we we don’t see the cause and effect happening in the invisible medium, the air molecules between the two tuning forks, which is where the vibration is being transferred through, actual molecules in the air. Now, we can’t see them with our eyes, so it looks magical to us. It doesn’t mean that there’s not a cause and effect. It just means our human faculties cannot directly perceive the cause and effect. So every synchronicity has a, what we call, acausal connection. That’s a connection, but we can’t perceive it through our human faculties. Now, the other part of a synchronicity is that there’s, uh, some type of subjective meaning associated with it. So even though there’s an acausal connection, um, as the person experiencing the synchronicity, we make meaning of the connection, even if we can’t see that the connection is somehow there. So in the idea of manifestation, um, it might be that you’re thinking about a roast beef sandwich and then you walk around the corner and you walk into a deli and there’s like a roast beef sandwich like right there on the counter, um, that maybe, uh, they made but somebody else didn’t pick up.
Brian
That might not be a great example, but it’s, it’s all of a sudden that you’re there like, oh my God, like I was just thinking about a roast beef sandwich. So you made meaning that it was, that, um, you had something to do with it, but you don’t see a direct connection between it. That would be kind of how a synchronicity would work. By definition, right? So the idea right now that we’re talking about things kind of like speeding up, because again, the universe uses synchronicities from the microscopic to the massive, massively scopic, you know, macroscopic kind of thing. It’s always working that way. I think what we were talking about is, you know, it seems like over the past several months that when we just think about somebody, they call or send a text. And it’s like immediate. Do you have some other examples?
Ani
Well, I’m, I’m not just noticing it for me, and you’re not just noticing it for you, but I’m noticing it all around us. I have some very cool, like, holistic-minded friends who we’ve been talking about how this is happening for them too. And, uh, I’m also noticing it in— a lot of times when we think about what we’re manifesting, we think of it in the quote-unquote positive light. Like the things that we want to happen happen. But I’m also noticing the, the speed at which things seem to be manifesting ramping up in terms of the undesired results that people are experiencing. I can talk about maybe what I think the difference is, maybe you have an idea about that too. But even, even people’s lives where it seems like one thing after the next is happening, or you know how when the universe is trying to get your attention, it can feel like it hits you over the head by a 2×4, like repeated 2x4s or really big 2×4 to try to get your attention. And like things happening, it’s like, why is this happening? Those kinds of things seem to be happening all around people I know.
Ani
It’s not just— it’s not just me, or it’s not just one person. It seems to be happening a lot. I mean, the thing— one of the things that I’m noticing for me is very subtle I’m thinking about something and then it seems to show up. And it’s, it’s little stuff like, um, you know, I seem to be thinking about paper clips and all of a sudden, like your roast beef sandwich thing, like paper clips seem to show up in my experience. It’s, it’s little everyday things that, that seem to be happening more frequently. Or I’ll have a certain word on my mind and then somebody’s talking about that certain word, um, those kinds of things. Recently I was out to lunch with a friend and I had been thinking about how I should contact this, uh, this place to go have a book talk that’s in our local area. And we sit down and then in, as soon as we sit down, in walks the person who coordinates events at that place and sits right next to us, like those kinds of things. So it’s some things that like are more action-oriented, some things that are more thinking-oriented.
Ani
It just seems like. We’re swimming in this, this environment that’s like very close to the manifestation. I don’t know what other word to use. Manifestation of like the evolving of life right now. Yeah.
Brian
You know, as things have been speeding up over the last couple of months, it feels like to me too, you know what, an old, an old idea that I’ve been thinking about for a long time kind of came back again and, and kind of started to rework it a little bit. And for me, it’s— there’s this idea of, is it like chicken or the egg? Like, we talk about cause and effect, but in your case, you had, um, you were at lunch with a, with a friend and you had an idea to reach out to the person at the bookstore. They walked in. Now, is it that you thought about the person at the bookstore and then that caused them to walk in, or was it that you in some way locked onto the frequency that they were going to walk in and then it made you think that they’re— you know, and again, that’s how universal synchronicities work. There’s— it’s a bi-directional kind of thing is the way the universe operates. It’s not a unidirectional thing, right? It’s sometimes it’s like I, I see it’s going to happen, or I have a— or I think I want it to happen, but it takes a long time to happen.
Brian
Well, we just had this conversation, kind of funny too, right? So we have a cat at home, and it’s— he’s an orange, uh, orange Krabby, I call him.
Ani
He’s not a tabby, he’s a tabby.
Brian
He’s an orange tabby. He’s orange tabby, but I call him an orange Krabby. So he’s an orange tabby.
Ani
Poor Lucky.
Brian
And so we were talking the other day about when I was a kid, my parents wouldn’t let us have any pets. Like, there were like no pets in the house sort of thing. And there was a cat, a barn cat, that one summer right down the road from our house, there was a dairy farm when we were kids. And so there were all these barn cats, you know, all the time running around. And I remember one summer there was, I had to be maybe, I don’t know, 6, maybe 5, 6 years old, something like that. And there was this butterscotch cat and I just fell in love with that cat. I was like, I just, can we go see the butterscotch cat? I wanna take the butterscotch cat home. Can we have the butterscotch? And of course can’t take it home. We’re not taking it home. But I never forgot about that butterscotch cat. And now 50 years later, I have a butterscotch cat in, in my house. But that’s kind of how, You know, there’s a— like, that’s like a long arc synchronicity, long time. But the thing is, it’s like I saw, or I had that attraction to, like, this butterscotch cat.
Brian
Um, would that cause him to come into my life, or did I see him coming to my life at some point in time? But, or were you—
Ani
it was just frequency of butterscotch? I don’t know.
Brian
But there’s this bi-directional thing that happens with synchronicity. I think that’s really important to think about, because if we can come at it from both ends then we can let go of what we feel like is our responsibility or need to like drive the process. When we feel like it’s like what I focus on grows, and that’s not that that’s not important, but we can oftentimes get really attached, attached to that. I have to make it happen. I have to meditate harder. I have to focus harder. I have to work harder. I have to do all this stuff harder to make it happen. When the point is that the universe is on its own timeline. That’s, that’s how the universe actually does. Time doesn’t really exist to the universe because a second or a gazillion or an eon is the same amount of time to the universe. It doesn’t really recognize that. So for us, it’s like when we come out for the bi-directional nature and go, oh, like, I know that thing is going to come into my life. I just don’t know when it’s going to come in my life, but I know it’s going to happen and it’s going to happen at exactly the right time when I need it to happen.
Brian
To grow into who I’m supposed to become.
Ani
You needed luck.
Brian
I needed lucky, apparently, to grow into who you were supposed to be. Still working on that somehow.
Ani
I think that’s really important because we’re talking about synchronicities speeding up, and also that’s not really the point. Knowing this, that the synchronicities are all around and noticing them is really the fun part. But to your point, the universe isn’t on a timeline. We as humans are thinking from a temporal place. It’s been 10 days since I started meditating on this. It’s been 5 years But the universe is waiting to put everything into the right place at the right time. I remember when I was about 14, I spent a lot of time at my aunt’s house and she had a second home that was in the woods. And, um, I loved it so much. I felt more at home at her house than I remember feeling anywhere else as a young person. I loved her house. I don’t remember ever saying, I want to live in a house like this. I don’t remember ever saying, I want to live in the woods or whatever. But, uh, I do remember walking into your home where we now live for the first time, and it smelled the same as my aunt’s. And that was a good 20 years later, and there it was for me in my life.
Ani
I was thinking about how I’ve, I’ve lived now in this house for about 14 years, and it’s the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere. And to think about when I was younger and this time I spent with my aunt’s house, and now the time that I’m going to have spent with this house that we live in, like, the majority of my life, I would assume at the end of my life will have been spent in this log cabin. So in, in a log cabin in, in the woods, and, and thinking about how— about like, which is the chicken or the egg? Like, maybe I was just picking up on the frequency of log cabin in the woods, what, knowing somehow somewhere in me that I was gonna that you’re supposed to be there.
Brian
That’s supposed to be a part of your path.
Ani
Exactly, exactly. I take— I think I take pretty seriously even the little things that show up in terms of synchronicities, to, um, be able to really pay attention and, and with true curiosity around, and, and an attachment to, like, what— not, not just what they mean, but like, this is a part of my life. Like, if I’m attracted to something like that, it’s a part of my life. If it’s coming into my awareness, there’s something in there for me. I want to talk for a minute about this idea about how synchronicities seem to be speeding up both in, in undesired and in desired ways. Um, and I am really interested to hear what you think. I think one of the things that is the critical factor in which way it goes, desired or undesired, is that when people understand how to consciously use the information in their life to consciously change who they are and be able to then create or manifest from the inside out. When people know how to do that, it seems to me that they’re creating more desired outcomes right now. Maybe it’s, it’s being able to create from the inside out consciously, whereas people who don’t know how to do that feel at the effect of this thing’s happening and that thing’s happening and this thing’s happening.
Ani
I think that’s really the key delineator in how it feels like it’s, you know, for some people they seem to be manifesting more the things that they want or the desired outcomes versus the undesired outcomes.
Brian
Yeah, I would agree with that. I would, from my perspective, I would say that basically for me breaks down to the idea of are you primarily living in victim consciousness or creator consciousness? And we’re talking about this from a consciousness standpoint, not of— because there are certainly things in the world that happen and people are victimized. Let’s, let’s definitely say that that happens, and that’s for sure. We’re coming out from a consciousness standpoint. So what do we mean by victim consciousness? To your point, Annie, victim consciousness is when we feel like the world is happening to us, like things are happening to us in the world on an ongoing basis, and that we are relatively powerless to create change. We always have to fight against what’s happening. Creator consciousness is that we always know that we’re creating from the inside out, and we’re actually creating our world And everything that we get from the universe is just feedback based on where we currently are to be able to make choices on moving forward. So I see desired and undesired actually as judgment calls. I love that story. I talk about it a lot, the good luck, bad luck, who knows, you know, story.
Ani
Exactly.
Brian
And kind of thing like it’s something that just happened and I get to decide whether or not it’s a good thing or a bad thing. And I get to decide what I’m gonna do with it to move in the direction I want to go in, in order to create the life I wanna create. ‘Cause everything is just feedback. If we could just drop the judgment around desired and undesired, we’d move a lot faster and create a lot more easily what it is that we really consciously want to create in our lives.
Ani
Right.
Brian
‘Cause we’re not attached to whether things are good or bad, we’re just taking it as feedback.
Ani
Because everything that’s happening is giving us an opportunity to live more into the life that we want to create.
Brian
Yeah, and that’s the other interesting thing too I just want to point out. It’s the thing that, that you authentically want to create. Because synchronicities will show up, um, the fastest and the clearest when they’re in alignment with your authentic intention, not somebody else’s authentic intention. And that’s one of the mistakes that people make a lot when they go into manifestation practices, is they actually create intentions around what other people want, or what other people want for them, or they want for other people, right? And so, you know, We live in this small log home in the woods, and people could look at that and go, well, I mean, if you could manifest anything, why don’t you have a mansion? Why don’t you have helicopters? Why don’t you have cruise ships? It’s like, I seriously just don’t want those things. And people could say, oh, you’re just saying that because you can’t, man. I mean, seriously, I do not want those things. For me, the thing I want to manifest more than anything else is freedom. That’s what I love more than anything else. And so I made a conscious effort to create a home that required as little maintenance as possible so that I could be free to do what I really wanted to do, to create things that I could pour my resources into, travel and time off and adventure and those sorts of things, right?
Brian
So that’s— I’m manifesting the life that I really, really want. And I can honestly say that and not compare to what other people have.
Ani
Do I—
Brian
can I look what other people got having? Oh man, that’s really cool what they did. I mean, Would it be cool to like be on a huge yacht for a little while? Well, sure. Do I want to own the thing? No, not at all. But if they really want that, that’s great for them. So the idea is, is for you, if you want synchronicities and the universe to conspire with you to create what you really want in your life, you have to get really clear about what it is that you want in your life. And when you do that for you and you let go of what other people have or what other people want you to have, you can really create the life that you really want in an amazing way.
Ani
And keep stepping forward, because as things are kind of speeding up right now, one of the things I’m noticing is, can you keep up with the rate? You know, to be able to step in and step in and step in, because we’re being asked to make decisions to do that over and over and over again, maybe every single day or every week. And how easeful does that feel for you to be able to do that? Because if it doesn’t and you feel like you’re getting bogged down in emotions or lack of energy, then the sensation-based work can really, really help with that because it’ll help you to just keep stepping in and stepping in and stepping in. If you don’t know how to do that from a sensation-based standpoint, it can feel overwhelming, you know, it can feel overwhelming and it can feel depleting. It doesn’t have to feel like that. You can learn how to shift that so that you can keep stepping in because the universe will give you opportunity, continued opportunities to step in But when it gets fast, you know, it can be kind of a lot. But when you’re riding that wave and able to make decisions and step in, it can actually be really energizing to do that.
Brian
Yeah. So come at it from this bidirectional nature. Realize you’re in the flow of universal creation. And when you have an intention about what you want to create, the universe will actually help you move in that direction. It’s going to bring things up to help you meet those challenges, those opportunities. You’ll become more of the person that can have and create the world and the life that you want to create for yourself. And it’s— is it that you’re actually seeing it and then making it happen, or is that you’re seeing because you know it’s going to happen? I mean, kind of, kind of muse on that a little bit. And when you can approach it from that bi-directional nature, you’re really getting the flow and that spontaneous flow with the universe.
Ani
It’s way more fun. Yeah. So yeah, we’re interested to hear your thoughts about this. What manifestations have been speeding up for you? We want to hear, you know, leave comments and let us know. And until then, we will see you next week. So have a great week and goodbye for now.
Brian
Keep manifesting.
Ani
Bye.
